The PNE - Alive & Well In Its Old Home

The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), has been on tenuous ground for years. Proposals have called for it to move to the Fraser Valley, or an industrial area in North Surrey. Personally, I love it right smack where it is. There is nothing like watching the sun settle into the Pacific Ocean on a warm summer evening, while shooting up to the top of the 202-foot Hellevator at 75 kph.

For now, the PNE seems to be firmly settled into its old location at Hastings and Renfrew. In fact, a "dramatic remake of its facilities" is being planned. They are resurrecting the PNE parade by reopening Miller Drive, the old road that runs between the livestock barns and the race course. They are also doubling the size of the beer garden, adding two live bands a night, and bringing in the national freestyle Motocross competition.

I've loved the PNE since I was a kid, visiting from Alberta on my summer holidays. May it forever stay put.
